Matahari

Serves traditional cuisine as can be found in typical Malay homes. The food you'll enjoy is prepared not by chefs, but instead by local village ladies or makcik, who are very skilled in their generations-old recipes. Recommendations include the Nasi Campur Kampung platter, a complete dinner set for two comprising samplings of all the popular Malaysian dishes. Others on the menu include favourites such as the state of Perak's most renown Malay dish, Rendang Tok, Sambal Sotong and Gulai Ayam Kampung ( Free-range chicken curry). Also try the Matahari Platter comprising pickled vegetables (jelatah), stir-fried spinach, sweet and spicy prawns and a fiery Ayam Masak Merah. There's also a mild, creamy beef kurma, chilli barracuda and pajeri nenas (thick sweet curry with pinepapple).

Datai Corner

Datai Corner: for cheap homemade roti canaiThis is probably the best place to partake of that great Malaysian breakfast - the roti canai. Located away from the bustling thoroughfares, this nondescript wooden eating place on the road leading to Teluk Yu, just before the turning to Datai Bay, serves the best homemade roti canai. Homemade? yes, the man mixes and kneads the dough himself rather than using the ready-made variety. The warung serves a nice range of rotis, including roti bom, paratha, roti telur, roti canai with cheese and many more. A wide range of Malaysian specialty teas and coffees are also available. The ambiance is authentic rural Langkawi.

Opening hours:
9 a.m. till 9.00 p.m. daily

Location :
Just a few metres before the Datai Junction

Kantan Restaurant

This Malay restaurant, built from two parts of authentic Malay houses on stilts is a sight to behold, especially in the evenings when the compound is beautifully lit with oil lamps.
The architecture aptly represents traditional Kedah, Perak and Negeri Sembilan Malay architecture. Of course, the usual beef rendang can also be savored alongside the delicious udang kebab serai  (grilled prawns skewed on lemon grass stems) and lots more.
