Langkawi's modern international airport is located 20km from the main town of Kuah. There are regular airline connections from Kuala Lumpur and various parts of the world. The most common access to the islands is by ferry either from Kuala Perlis or Kuala Kedah on the mainland.
 

By Road

The North-South Expressway facilitates travel to Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis. Toll for Class 1 vehicles from Kuala Lumpur Jalan Duta to Alor Star (north): RM55.50. Express buses usually take about seven hours. Buses from Kuala Lumpur depart from either the Puduraya or the Hentian Duta Terminal.Fare from KL to Kuala Perlis is about RM33, while to Alor Star, RM30 one-way. Car parks available at both points.
By Rail

The KTM provides rail services from KL to Alor Star and Arau. From Alor Star or Arau, you can take a bus or taxi to Kuala Kedah (from Alor Star RM15) or Kuala Perlis (from Arau RM12) and then board the ferry to Langkawi. Comfortable air-conditioned sleeping berths are available. For ticket enquiries call KTMB: 03-226 71200. By Air

Daily direct air services from KL to Langkawi operated by Air Asia and Malaysia Airlines. FireFly Air (from Penang only). Air Asia operates three flights a week between Langkawi and Bangkok on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Singapore's Silk Air serves the Singapore route four times a week. By Ferry

Ferries provide regular services to Langkawi from Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis. Journey from Kuala Kedah/ Kuala Perlis to Kuah, Langkawi takes about 1 hour 15 minutes and 45 minutes respectively, while from Penang about 2 hours 30 minutes. Last ferry departs 7.00 p.m. One way fares from Kuala Perlis: RM18 (adult) / RM13 (child). From Kuala Kedah: RM23 (adult) / RM17 (child). From Penang: RM60 (adult) / RM45 (child) / RM25 (infant below 2 years.) From Langkawi to Satun (Thailand): RM30 (adult) / RM23 (child).
